What am I looking at?
The background areas of this painting seem fairly neutral at first glance, but actually contain a wide variety of color, and some deep dark blues and greys. The layering of the lighter colors over the deeply textured ground helps unify, but the swirls and marks still "dance" across and throughout the whole surface. The three vertical marks - the fragment - contain composite gilding and dry metallic pigment, so have a range of reflectivity. This reflection contrasts with the more subtle background, and highlights the texture of the surface. The edges of the fragment "come and go" with more and less distinct separation from the surrounding area. Let your eye wander and see where it lands.
How big is it?
This is the approximate scale of a 16x16" painting, compared to a person who is 5' 8" tall:
Shipping & Returns
Shipping & Returns
Pricing does not include packaging and shipping.
Local Pickup: no charge
If you pick up at the studio, I will appropriately wrap the painting for hand-carry transport at no charge. This will likely be bubble wrap, stretch film, and potentially cardboard (depending on the size of the piece) but will not include a box or crate.
Continental United States
If you need a painting shipped within the continental United States, I will box or crate it for shipping, and I will split the costs of shipping and insurance with you. The website shipping calculator does not do a good job at this, so shipping is currently a separate fee. Please contact me so I can create a "shipping item" for you to add to your order, to complete your purchase.
You are welcome to complete the purchase of your artwork prior to paying for shipping, so that the work cannot be purchased by someone else. If you change your mind before the work is shipped, I will refund you the price of the work.
Current packing/shipping/insurance estimates are:
- paintings 16x20" or smaller: $60
- paintings larger than 16x20 and up to 24x30: $100
- paintings larger than 24x30 and up to 30x40: $150
Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada
For shipping outside to Alaska, Hawaii, or Canada, I will need to get quotes for professional crating and freight; expect prices to be at least double the above quotes.
Other Locations
I am not currently able to ship outside of the United States and Canada.
Returns
Returns are complicated and it's best on all sides if we can avoid a return situation. However, art is personal and I want you to be happy with what you've chosen, so I will attempt to work with you on what is reasonable if you determine that you will need to return a painting.
If for some reason you decide to return a painting, all of the crating, shipping, and insurance will be at your expense. I am not able to accept returns shipped without insurance.
